It is important to do a D.I.Y maintenance of your wheelchair to ensure the safety, mobility & performance of your equipment. These maintenance are to be done by the buyer.
Daily Maintenance:
- Inspect Tires:
- Look for any visible damage, punctures, or wear on the tires. Replace damaged or worn tires promptly.
- Check Brakes:
- Test the brakes to ensure they are functioning correctly. Ensure they engage and release smoothly.
- Inspect brake pads for wear. Replace if worn down.
- Check for Loose Bolts and Nuts:
- Examine the wheelchair frame for loose bolts, nuts, or screws. Tighten any that are loose but be careful not to over-tighten.
- Clean Upholstery:
- Wipe down the seat and backrest with a damp cloth to remove dirt, spills, and debris.
- Ensure the upholstery is dry before sitting in the wheelchair.
Weekly Maintenance:
- Clean Wheelchair Frame:
- Wipe down the entire frame, including the crossbars, with a damp cloth to remove dust and grime.
- Dry the frame thoroughly to prevent rust.
- Check Casters and Wheels:
- Inspect the front casters and rear wheels for debris, hair, or string that may have become entangled. Remove any obstructions.
- Ensure that all wheels spin freely and are securely attached.
Monthly Maintenance:
- Lubricate Moving Parts:
- Apply a lubricant to moving parts such as the axles, pivot points, and folding mechanisms to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
- Inspect Footrests and Armrests:
- Check the footrests and armrests for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure they are securely attached to the wheelchair frame.
- Check Seating and Positioning:
- Examine the seat and backrest for signs of wear or sagging. Replace if necessary.
- Verify that the seat upholstery is securely attached to the frame.
